A sudden death of a loved one or losing a family member to sickness can be devastating. Some families may not be financially prepared to pay for funeral expenses or burial plots. In Washington, a complete funeral service can cost more than $5,000, and there are other costs associated with death, including legal and estate fees, death certificates and obituaries. Thankfully, we offer affordable cremation services at the Cremation Society of Washington.
Our team is available around the clock to help families make arrangements. We also understand how overwhelming and difficult it can be to make decisions, which is why we make our process easier. Cremation Society of Washington also strictly adheres to our operating procedures and policies to minimize or eliminate errors. Our team members are certified professionals trained to operate the cremation equipment. Additionally, we own all cremator equipment and implement identification in each stage of the cremation process.
You offer two cremation options discussed in more detail below.
A common type of cremation available in all 50 states, we use heat and flame to reduce your loved one's body to ashes. While our actual cremation process takes 1-3 hours, the entire cremation process can take weeks. After the death of your loved one, we advise you to contact us immediately so we can check on the availability of the medical examiner and start the process as soon as all the paperwork is ready. We will schedule the cremation as soon as possible so you can start with a memorial service to celebrate the life of your loved one.
Instead of flame, we use a combination of alkaline chemicals, pressure and heat to cremate your loved one's body. Also called aquamation or alkaline hydrolysis, this type of cremation is currently only available in 19 states, including Washington. Compared to fire-based, using chemicals and heat during cremation takes longer. It can take about 4 to 6 hours. We will place the ashes in a basic plastic urn, premium metal or a deluxe wood urn.
